2023 Tello Talent Coding Experience Course — Yan Tak Catholic Primary School
This summer Tello Talent coding experience course was successfully held at Yan Tak Catholic Primary School, giving Primary 5 and 6 students hands-on experience with drone operation and programming.
The INSPIRE-led Tello Talent course typically includes the following sections, teaching students drone knowledge and programming skills progressively:
1. Theory — Exploring Drone Technology, Flight Principles and Structure
At the start, instructors use explanations and real-life examples of drone technology and applications to help all students gain a basic understanding and spark their interest and motivation to learn.
Tello Talent is equipped with various sensors, making it an ideal teaching tool for beginner drone operators including primary school students for learning, training and programming flight activities.
2. Manual Flight Training
To let students experience the key elements of controlling drones in 3D space — flight distance and speed in x, y, z axes, aerial posture, action sequences, etc. — we typically start by teaching manual drone control. Under instructor guidance, students complete flight training tasks in a safe and controlled environment.
3. One-to-One Programming
At this stage, instructors carefully teach students how to programme using the Tello EDU app. It contains various flight commands and logic blocks, requiring students to apply logical thinking and problem-solving skills to complete assigned flight tasks.
4. Swarm Programming
Once students have a solid understanding of programming, the instructor increases the difficulty. Using Tello Talent's Station mode with the Tello EDU app and routers, students can design and control up to 6 drones simultaneously.
Through this course, we aim to achieve the following objectives:
- Help students understand drone flight principles, applications, industry uses and flight regulations
- Enable students to skilfully control drone flight movements
- Help students understand basic programming concepts and learn to use the Tello EDU App for one-to-one and one-to-many programmed flight with Tello Talent (TT) drones
- Enable students to independently design drone performances and related coding techniques with problem-solving capabilities
