2021 TWGHs Kwok Yat Wai College — Drone Flight Course

INSPIRE instructors led a drone flight course at TWGHs Kwok Yat Wai College. 11 students participated in a 6-hour drone knowledge course and hands-on workshop.

Students first learned about drone technology and related STEM knowledge, including drone structure, flight principles and driving programmes. They also studied essential safety practices and Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department regulations to ensure safe drone operation and compliance with no-fly zones and altitude restrictions.

After grasping fundamental drone knowledge and regulations, students practised manual control of small drones indoors under instructor supervision, operating Tello EDU for simple flight tasks to familiarise themselves with controller handling in preparation for outdoor flight.

Following indoor trial flights, the instructor introduced the professional drone DJI Go 4 app including GPS, VPS, IMU, RTH and battery information.

Students then proceeded to manual control training with the professional DJI Mavic series, practising cinematic panning and movement techniques to gain initial aerial filming experience.

After completing outdoor drone filming under the guidance of two instructors, students used iPad (DJI GO 4 App) to perform basic editing, mixing, subtitling, transitions and colour grading on footage captured above the school rooftop, producing their final project videos.
